Dr Michael Sawyer is a consultant cardiologist with specialisation in cardiac imaging. He manages all aspects of cardiology including preventative cardiology, heart failure and cardiomyopathies, coronary disease, valvular heart disease, and hypertension. He holds a dual Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in Cardiology and General Medicine.
Michael completed a Bachelor of Science degree and postgraduate diploma of Science in Pharmacology at the University of Auckland, before completing his medical degree at the University of Queensland. He completed residency at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and specialist physician training at a number of sites in South East Queensland. He then completed specialist cardiology training at the Princess Alexandra Hospital and a fellowship in advanced cardiac imaging at The Alfred in Melbourne.
Michael has experience in multimodality cardiac imaging including transthoracic echocardiography, stress echocardiography, transoesophageal echocardiography, CT coronary angiography, CT calcium scores, and cardiac MRI. He is accredited to report cardiac CT and cardiac MRI.
Michael holds lecturer status with Griffith University and associate lecturer status with the University of Queensland. He is a staff specialist at Ipswich Hospital and Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Hospital, and visits St Andrew’s Ipswich Private Hospital.
